Elon Musk’s Mom Shares His 1989 Aptitude Test Scores: ‘Not Bad for a Human’

Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s incredible high school intellectual ability is back under the limelight following his mother, Maye Musk, posting a nostalgic update about him. Over the weekend, she posted on X (previously Twitter) the outcome of his computer skills test when he was 17 years old.

“Sorting through photos, I found computer aptitude test results of @elonmusk at age 17. My genius boy. Proud mom,” she posted, with a photo of the results.

In reply to the post, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX shared that the assessors had found his answers to be remarkable. “They told me I had the highest score for engineering ability that they’d ever recorded. Or, you know, not bad for a human, as some future AI might say,” Musk responded on X.

The exam, carried out by the University of Pretoria on May 17, 1989, was termed “outstanding.” Authored by JLM Wiechers, the director of information management at the university, the report indicated Musk earned A+ marks in Operating Systems and Programming.

Reports indicate that Musk studied for a short while at the University of Pretoria before joining Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, in 1990.

The revived aptitude test provides a window into Musk’s early mental ability and hints at his potential as a pioneering technologist and space explorer in the future.
