A disturbing video circulating on social media appears to show Bengaluru-based Dr. Priyadarshini N, along with her son and daughter, physically and verbally assaulting her in-laws in Karnataka. The incident, reportedly captured on March 10 at the residence of her father-in-law, J. Narasimaiah, has sparked widespread condemnation and demands for strict action against the accused.
Incident Overview
According to the complaint lodged by J. Narasimaiah at the Annapoorneshwarinagar police station, Dr. Priyadarshini, who married his son in 2007 and whose husband has since applied for divorce, visited his home at approximately 8:30 p.m. accompanied by her children. The video allegedly shows a chaotic scene: the doctor shouting, physically dragging her mother-in-law by the hair, and her daughter kicking her grandmother. Narasimaiah, an 80-year-old heart patient, claims he was kicked and stamped on, while his wife, a cancer survivor, was reportedly dragged by her mangalsutra for over five minutes. He further alleges that during the altercation, Dr. Priyadarshini issued death threats.

Claims and Counterclaims
Dr. Priyadarshini maintains that her actions were provoked by her in-laws. She claims that she had visited her husband’s home to confront the family about his lack of financial support for their children, and that her reaction, recorded on video, was an attempt to address these grievances. However, her in-laws, who have reportedly lived separately for over a decade due to past mistreatment, deny any provocation and insist that she violated a court order by forcibly entering their rented residence.
Police are currently investigating the incident, scrutinizing both the video evidence and the allegations from both sides.
Public Outcry and Legal Action
The viral video has ignited a fierce debate on social media, with many users decrying the inhumane treatment of elderly family members. One user commented, “Severe punishments must be enforced, and the judiciary needs reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.” Others expressed shock, stating that no elderly parents should endure such brutality.
The police have registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace. Authorities are actively pursuing the investigation and have not yet disclosed further details.
