Durga Puja 2024: West Bengal Artist Creates Historic Six-Foot Crown For Idol

As West Bengal gears up for its grandest celebration, Durga Puja, a local artist from Dakshin Dinajpur is making headlines for an extraordinary creation. Devjyoti Mohra, a talented artisan from Balurghat, has crafted a stunning six-and-a-half-foot-long crown for the Durga idol, setting a new record in the process.

A Unique Creation for a Grand Festival

Durga Puja, the biggest cultural festival in Bengal, is known for its elaborate pandals and intricately designed idols. This year, the Kachikala Club in South Dinajpur, one of the district’s major pujas, will showcase the largest crown ever made for a Durga idol, thanks to Devjyoti’s innovative work. In addition to the crown, Mohra has also crafted a six-foot garland and other jewelry pieces, all made from natural materials. His artistry has drawn attention from far and wide, with people flocking to his home to catch a glimpse of the ongoing work.

Crafting History with Devotion

Devjyoti’s work is not just about size but also about the intricate details and traditional techniques. The crown, along with the round necklace, seven-wave necklace, bangles, and headpiece, are all being meticulously crafted using natural tools like Shola, Zari, and Punthi. His dedication has inspired many young students from the city, who have joined him in this artistic endeavor, turning the project into a community effort that is fostering self-reliance among aspiring artisans.

A Festival of Art and Tradition

Durga Puja 2024 in South Dinajpur is set to be one of the most memorable celebrations, with the district’s largest crown and other grand ornaments adding to the festival’s splendor. Devjyoti’s work has not only captured the attention of locals but also garnered recognition beyond the state, marking a significant achievement in the artistic community. As anticipation builds, the artistry of Durga Puja continues to evolve, blending tradition with innovation.
