Doctors Removed ‘8,125 Gallstones’ From 70 Year Old Man’s Body After One-Hour Operation

A 70-year-old man had a rare surgery performed in Delhi where doctors successfully removed 8,125 gallstones from his gallbladder. Medical experts believe this could be the highest number of gallstones ever extracted in a single case. The patient had been suffering from persistent abdominal pain, intermittent fever, chest heaviness, appetite loss, and weakness for several years but failed to seek timely treatment.

Minimally Invasive Surgery Saved His Life

When his condition worsened, the man was rushed to a private hospital in Delhi. An immediate abdominal ultrasound revealed severe gallbladder congestion. Doctors quickly decided to conduct a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, which lasted about an hour. The team, led by Dr. Amit Javed and Dr. Narola Yanger, removed thousands of stones that had accumulated over the years due to neglect.

“The Patient’s Long-Term Negligence Made His Condition Severe”

Dr. Amit Javed stated, “This is a rare case. If gallstones are not treated, their number keeps increasing gradually.” He emphasized that long-term ignorance can lead to severe complications such as gallbladder infection, pus formation, and fibrosis a condition where the inner wall of the gallbladder hardens.

Counting Took Hours

After the surgery, the medical staff spent hours carefully counting the removed stones, ultimately reaching the astonishing total of 8,125 stones. The patient recovered well and was discharged two days later in stable condition.

Doctors Warn Against Delaying Treatment

The doctors cautioned that further delay could have put the patient at serious risk. “If there was any more delay, the patient’s condition could have worsened and he might have developed severe infections and abdominal pain,” the team explained.
