Did Trump Really Ban Tesla in the US? Here’s the Truth Behind the Viral Video

A video circulating widely on social media falsely claims that US President Donald Trump has banned Tesla from producing cars in the country. In the clip, Trump appears to insult Tesla CEO Elon Musk, calling him a “snake” and saying he will no longer allow him to “make money in this country.” However, according to The Quint, the video is completely fake.

Fake Video Shows Trump Mocking Musk and Teslas

The misleading video shows Trump calling Teslas “junk cars” meant for “nerds.” It also features him claiming that he only purchased a Tesla to win Musk’s support for the 2024 presidential election. However, The Quint reported that no trustworthy news source has published anything about a Tesla production ban.

According to a USA Today report, the only fact is that Trump no longer wants to keep the Tesla Model S he once bought. The article makes no mention of any official government action against Tesla.

AI Tools Confirm the Video Was Manipulated

To verify whether the video was real, fact-checkers ran it through artificial intelligence detection tools. One such tool, Hive Moderation, flagged the video as 99.8% likely to be AI-generated. The audio had several problems, including signs of advanced voice cloning.

Another tool, Contrails.ai, confirmed that the video and audio had been altered. It pointed out “unnatural lip and head movement,” and described the audio as sounding like Trump but with a “monotonous tone” and “unnatural pacing.”

Community Note on X Flags the Video as False

When the video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), the platform added a community note. It warned viewers: “This video is AI-generated. Nothing to do with reality.”

Despite the video’s widespread reach, there is no truth to the claim that Donald Trump banned Tesla. The video is fake, AI-generated, and has no connection to real events.
