A video of a group of women singing bhajans inside a crowded Delhi Metro train has gone viral, prompting mixed reactions online. The incident reportedly took place during peak hours, with the women performing devotional songs using instruments like the dholak and kartaal. Dressed in sarees and traditional attire, the group sang loudly, turning the routine metro ride into a makeshift bhajan session.
While the impromptu performance drew little attention from fellow passengers — many seen glued to their phones — the viral clip has stirred a strong debate on social media around civic behaviour in public transport.
CISF Intervenes, Bhajan Session Stopped
As seen in the viral video, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan eventually entered the coach and asked the women to stop the performance. The security personnel reminded them that such activities could inconvenience other commuters and must not occur inside the metro.

The group complied immediately and apologised for the disturbance. Fortunately, the situation was defused peacefully, with no fines or formal complaints registered.
Internet Reacts: Civic Sense or Harmless Fun?
Online reactions have been sharply divided. While some users criticised the act, citing a lack of civic sense, others viewed it as a harmless cultural expression.
One user wrote, “Civic sense k liye public places koi prayer, bhajan etc. krke nuisance nhi failana chaiye (For the sake of civic sense, one must not engage in prayer or bhajan at public places and spread nuisance).” Another added, “Religion should be practiced in religious places, or at home. Why here?”
However, others defended the group, with one netizen saying, “So what? At least they are not smoking, drinking, or playing cards. They’re singing bhajans for entertainment.”
Referencing previous metro incidents, another user joked, “Ab ye sab bhi shuru ho gya metro me! (Now even this has started in the metro).”
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has not issued an official statement on the matter so far.
