In a heartfelt tribute to the Indian Armed Forces’ recent Operation Sindoor, a couple in Bihar has named their newborn daughter ‘Sindoori’ to commemorate the historic strike. The military operation, launched just past midnight on Wednesday in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack, targeted nine terror hubs across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Santosh Mandal and Rakhi Kumari of Balthi Maheshpur village in Bihar’s Katihar district gave birth to their baby girl on the day of the strike. The coincidence meant so much to her family. “The triumph over Pakistan and our daughter’s birth on the same day, both are a matter of pride for our family,” relatives Kundan Kumar and Simple Devi told.
The naming of their daughter after the procedure is an expression of the strong emotional connection and national patriotism so many Indians share in response to what happened. Manager of Katihar Seva Sadan, where the baby was born, Pappu Kumar termed it a heart-touching act. “This is a clear indication of how patriotism moves every Indian,” he said.
Operation Sindoor was a highly coordinated operation by Indian troops, which entailed missile attacks on important terror targets such as Jaish-e-Mohammad’s headquarters at Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters at Muridke. It was undertaken with complete authority from the Prime Minister so that military commanders could decide on the time, place, and mode of retaliation after 26 civilians were martyred in the Pahalgam attack.
The name of the operation ‘Sindoor’ is inspired by the symbolic red powder that traditionally married Hindu women wear. It also holds greater significance, given that some of the victims in the Pahalgam tragedy were married women who lost their husbands, including a Navy officer, during the attack.
