A 17-year-old girl studying at a private pre-university institution in Karnataka’s Kolar district gave birth on campus on Monday. According to a police officer, the girl in Class 11 gave birth in the women’s toilet.
According to the authorities, the girl and infant were taken to the hospital. The girl’s parents later went to the Kolar Women’s Police Station and filed a complaint.
A police official stated that they have taken up the case and begun a manhunt to apprehend the accused. “The girl and boy had been in a relationship for the past two years. The girl was pregnant, but it’s unclear how the family missed it and why she kept it a secret. We will speak with the girl later when she recovers after giving birth, with the assistance of a female counsellor, stated a police officer.
The police stated that they have filed a case under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Section 376 (2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Though the case was reported after new criminal laws were implemented, the alleged crime occurred nine months ago, so the new laws will not apply in this case, according to a police official.
