Chocolate Idli Served With Strawberry Jam? Bengaluru Street Vendor’s Unique Creation Leaves Netizens Angry

The internet is awash with innovative street food creations by vendors across India, each adding their own twist to classic dishes to create unique selling points.

However, some of these concoctions venture beyond unique into the realm of the unappetizing. One such example is the chocolate-filled idli being sold on the streets of Bengaluru.

In a video shared by Instagram food blogger Amar Sodhi, known as @foodie_incarnate, a street vendor is seen offering a plate of these chocolate-filled idlis for ₹100. To further enhance this already bizarre dish, the vendor coats the rice idlis with strawberry jam, mango syrup, and lychee spread. He then serves it alongside a cup of strawberry ice cream, topped with a drizzle of chocolate and colorful sprinkles instead of the traditional podi masala or chutney.

“Today I am going to show you the weirdest idli in Bengaluru. I have not eaten anything worse than this in Bengaluru. This is a bad joke. It’s salty, sour and sweet at the same time,” says the disgusted food blogger in his video.

Online Reaction To Chocolate Idli

The video, which has amassed over 2.3 million views on Instagram, has left many viewers disgusted, prompting comments like “Justice for Idli” on the post.

“Tauba Tauba sara mood khrab krdia,” said one user.

“Bhai zeher daalna bhool gaye shayad,” wrote another user.

“Idli is crying in corner. It’s combination is with coconut chutney and sambhar. These days in Bangalore everything is a experiment,” read one comment.

“Nonsense guy created nonsense food for nonsense people,” read another frustrated comment on the video. Another user added that they couldn’t even bear to look at the idlis, let alone eat a whole plate of this creation.

“I am from Karnataka and I feel violated by this idli,” wrote one user.
