Candy Crush Takes Job Away: Government Teacher Spends 2 Hours Playing on Phone in School

An assistant teacher in a government school in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, was suspended due to his addiction to playing Candy Crush on his mobile phone during working hours. The incident came to light when District Magistrate Rajendra Pansiya conducted a random check at the school. During the inspection, the District Magistrate discovered numerous mistakes in the students’ notebooks.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed through a feature on the teacher Priyam Goyal’s phone that he had spent nearly two hours of the five and a half school hours playing Candy Crush. Additionally, Goyal had used his phone for personal calls and social media for significant periods during school hours.

The District Magistrate found 95 mistakes across six pages from the notebooks of six different students, with nine errors spotted on the first page alone. Upset by these findings, the District Magistrate emphasized the importance of teachers focusing on checking students’ classwork and homework to ensure quality education.

Following this discovery, the District Magistrate informed the state education department, which promptly took action by suspending the teacher. The case highlights the impact of phone addiction on professional responsibilities and the importance of maintaining focus on educational duties during school hours.
