A shocking incident of public humiliation and violence has emerged from Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district, where a 21-year-old youth was allegedly stripped naked and brutally beaten for visiting his 16-year-old girlfriend at her residence. Following the circulation of a disturbing video of the assault on social media, police have swiftly acted, arresting five individuals in connection with the case.

According to a police official, the incident unfolded in Bade Raveli village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Malkharoda police station. On the night of April 8th, Rahul Anchal, a resident of the Dabra police station area belonging to the Scheduled Caste Satnami community, went to meet his girlfriend, who belongs to the Other Backward Class (OBC).

“The girl’s family caught the youth at their house at night and allegedly held him hostage,” the official stated. Police further revealed the horrific details of the ordeal, alleging that the accused subjected Rahul to relentless physical abuse throughout the night, using slippers, cables, and pipes.

The brutality escalated the following morning, April 9th, when Rahul was allegedly stripped naked and beaten on the streets of the village. Harrowing visuals captured in a now-viral video show the victim sitting on a platform under a tree while a man strikes his legs with a rope.

In another video clip, the distressed victim can be heard recounting his terrifying experience, saying that “the girl’s parents held him in a room and then called others after which he was beaten up all night.” Rahul has since been admitted to a hospital in the Raigad district for medical treatment.

Despite the severity of the assault, Sakti district’s Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma clarified that no formal complaint was initially filed by the victim. “No complaint has been received regarding the attack on the youth,” she stated. However, the viral video prompted immediate police intervention. “After the video surfaced on social media, the police took cognizance of the matter and called an important person of the society (to whom the youth belongs) and on the basis of his complaint, an FIR was registered in the case.”

Superintendent Sharma further confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita – BNS) and the stringent Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. “So far five people have been detained in this connection and further investigation is underway,” she assured.

This incident has ignited outrage and condemnation, highlighting the persistent issues of caste discrimination and the violent repercussions faced by individuals in inter-caste relationships. The swift action by the police following the viral video underscores the power of social media in bringing such heinous acts to light and demanding accountability. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice for the victim.
