Actress Cheryl Hines, married to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., faced online criticism for a video posted on social media, featuring her husband in a shower, partially naked. The ad, designed to promote her beauty brand Hines & Young, backfired on social media as users found it awkward and tone-deaf.
In the video, posted on Instagram, Hines humorously interrupted RFK Jr., who appeared unaware of her promotional filming. Captioning the post as “H+Y content interruption,” she quipped, “You can’t take a shower, I’m doing a video!” while advertising a 60% discount on her products. Hines also added, “Oh Bobby,” accompanied by heart and smiley emojis, seemingly light-hearted in tone.
The actress later shared a follow-up post showcasing her product line, including a candle labeled “MAHA,” which seemingly referenced her husband’s “Make America Healthy Again” campaign slogan. Despite her intentions, the promotional tactic did not land well with many viewers.
The video faced intense criticism online, with several users branding it as “cringeworthy” and accusing Hines of leveraging her personal life for publicity. One commenter wrote, “This is one of the cringiest things I’ve ever seen… lost all respect for Cheryl Hines.” Another added, “Lame. Very lame. Maybe don’t follow your husband into the bathroom to do an advertisement.”
What was seemingly intended as a playful and relatable moment has turned into a controversial misstep, raising questions about the boundaries of personal and professional life. Neither Cheryl Hines nor RFK Jr. has commented on the backlash thus far.
