The hashtag ‘Republic of Balochistan’ trended widely on platform X (formerly Twitter) this Wednesday, days after Baloch activist Mir Yar Baloch and other leaders declared independence from Pakistan. Users across social media shared maps of a free Balochistan, videos of people waving Balochistan’s flag, and content showing symbolic gestures of friendship between Balochistan and India.
In a post dated May 9, Mir Yar Baloch proclaimed Balochistan’s independence and appealed to India and the international community for formal recognition. “A possible announcement soon should be done as the collapse of the terrorist Pakistan is near. We have claimed our independence and we request India to allow Balochistan’s official office, and embassy in Delhi,” he wrote.
Appeal To India, UN For Recognition
Baloch urged the United Nations to take urgent steps toward recognizing the Democratic Republic of Balochistan and convene a meeting of all member states. “There must be a release of billions of funds for currency, and passport printing,” he added.

In a direct message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he wrote, “Dear Narendra Modi ji you are not alone, you have the backing of 60 million Baloch patriots.”
Full Support To India On PoK
On May 14, amid growing regional tension following India’s Operation Sindoor, Mir Yar Baloch again expressed solidarity with India. “Breaking News: 14 May 2025 Balochistan fully supports the India decision of asking Pakistan to vacate PoK. The international community must urge Pakistan to immediately leave PoK to avoid another humiliation of surrender on its 93000 army personnel in Dhaka.”
He further warned of Pakistan’s tactics, adding, “India is capable of defeating Pakistan army and if Pakistan didn’t pay any heed then the only Pakistani greedy army generals must be held responsible for bloodshed because Islamabad is using PoK people as human shields.”
Background: Operation Sindoor
The Baloch leader’s declaration and subsequent posts come just weeks after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 26 Indian tourists and a local horse rider. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting multiple terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, escalating tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
