Barely days after the gruesome Muskaan murder case in Meerut shocked the nation, a more sinister case has surfaced from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. Maya Devi, a 50-year-old woman from Bahadurpur under the Kotwali police station area, brutally murdered her husband with the help of her lover and dumped his dismembered body along the Ghaghra river. The case has triggered widespread outrage and raised concerns over the erosion of familial values.
Murder For Love: Husband Killed, Body Cut Into 6 Pieces
According to police officials, Maya Devi was involved in an extramarital affair with Anil Yadav. In a shocking plot, she, along with Anil and his associates Satish Yadav and driver Mithilesh Patel, murdered her husband Devendra Kumar, a retired BRO army personnel. They then chopped his body into six parts and disposed of them near the riverbank in Kharid village, under Sikandarpur police station.
Superintendent of Police, Ballia, Omveer Singh confirmed, “Maya Devi, Anil Yadav, Satish Yadav, and Mithilesh have been arrested in connection with the murder.”
A Disturbing Cover-Up: Wife Filed Husband’s Missing Report Herself
In a calculated attempt to evade suspicion, Maya Devi herself lodged a missing person’s complaint on May 10 at the Ballia Kotwali police station. She claimed her husband had gone to Buxar railway station in Bihar to bring their daughter home and had not returned. His phone was unreachable, she said in a written complaint.
However, the same day, police recovered severed limbs from the Diyara stretch of the Ghaghra river in Kharid village. Two days later, a torso was found in a nearby well. These discoveries raised suspicion, prompting police to intensify the investigation.
The Shocking Truth Unfolds
Upon interrogation, Maya confessed to the crime. SP Omveer Singh stated, “During questioning, the accused revealed that Devendra’s head had been thrown into the Ghaghra river. A search operation with divers is ongoing to recover it.”
After the torso was identified as Devendra Kumar’s, his daughter approached the Ballia police to file a formal murder complaint. She named her mother Maya Devi, Anil Yadav, Satish Yadav, and Bolero driver Mithilesh Patel as the accused.
Rising Concerns Over Broken Bonds
The Ballia murder case has stunned people across Uttar Pradesh, especially following the Meerut incident. It has sparked a wave of concern over the apparent breakdown of trust and sanctity in relationships. That a woman could so cruelly kill her husband with whom she had pledged to spend a lifetime—and then stage a false search—has left the public disturbed and outraged.
Police investigations are continuing, and efforts are underway to recover the remaining body parts and gather more evidence.
