In Hindu culture, rain during a wedding is a common belief to be good luck, representing purity, new starts, fertility, and a good marriage. But among most desis, there is also a light-hearted superstition to it that a partner had to have consumed food cooked in an iron kadhai (wok), which resulted in rain. This is a belief, much popularly known to be one, but it has again picked up pace online due to a viral video.

The video uploaded on April 15 captures a groom walking towards his wedding while it rains heavily. While others wait for him under an overhang, trying to stay dry along with his friends, family, and relatives, the groom can be heard talking to one of his relatives before the camera moves to the crowd exchanging smiles and light-hearted laughter.

What absolutely stole the limelight was the caption of the video — “Aur khao kadhai me khana.” The POV of the video also states, “Kuch nahi bas ladka kadhai me khana tha,” going further to enhance the comic side.

Social Media Responds

As the video went viral with more than 7 million views, social media users inundated the comments with clever interpretations and typical desi humor.

One of the users commented, “Divided by religion/community, United by such desi things.” Another user joined in, “Kadhai nhi cooker me khata hoga direct tbhi aise barish ho rhi h.”

While the groom was the primary target of jokes, some users turned the tables, implying the bride could be at fault as well. One of the comments stated, “Ye bhi to ho sakta h ladki ne kadhai me khaya ho.” Another added, “Galat baat h yaar kadhai me khaya tha to kadhai girni chahiye thi n.”

The meme material moment saw users chiming in with lighthearted spins such as, “Isko koi btaya nhi kya ……nhi khana tha,” and “Yeh tho relatable ho gya.”

Others also joked about themselves, claiming that they’ve dined out of a kadhai frequently and now worry about what the weather for their future weddings will be. As one wrote: “New fear unlocked?”

What started out as a humorous dig at a rain-soaked groom has evolved into a viral celebration of a common cultural idiosyncrasy — wrapped in playful insults.
