A disturbing incident occurred on Tuesday (March 11) aboard the 8:30 PM Titwala local train, when an empty alcohol bottle was hurled into the ladies compartment, sending shockwaves through passengers.
Incident Unfolds
According to eyewitness accounts, the bottle—allegedly thrown from an oncoming train heading toward CSMT—first struck a fan, shattering into fragments that scattered across the compartment. Among those affected was 18-year-old Amina Khan, a burqa-clad girl, who was hit by a piece of glass. Fortunately, her injuries were minor, but the incident instilled fear and chaos among passengers.
Passengers’ Reactions and Inaction
A 29-year-old passenger, Pranavi Billa, promptly picked up a broken piece of the bottle and alerted the female police constables on board. Despite her repeated requests for intervention, the officers failed to take any noticeable action. “I tried to ask the police to do something, but they did not respond at all,” Pranavi lamented, reflecting the mounting frustration among commuters.
Eyewitness Account
An 22-year-old female journalist from FPJ, who was present in the compartment, described the moment as a “stark reminder” of the vulnerabilities women face on local trains. “I was sitting in the ladies compartment when, out of nowhere, a large alcohol bottle was thrown inside. Everyone was stunned and terrified. Even though two female constables were present, no one intervened to help,” she said.
The incident has ignited calls from passengers and activists for stricter security measures on public trains. Critics argue that the lack of prompt police response in such situations endangers the safety of female passengers. As outrage grows over the reckless act, many are urging authorities to enforce tighter security protocols and ensure immediate action in future incidents.
