A fire broke out on a 600-foot cargo vessel named Morning Midas, prompting a swift response from the US Coast Guard. The incident occurred approximately 300 miles southwest of Adak, Alaska, on Wednesday. The ship, flying under the Liberian flag, was en route to Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico, as per data from LSEG.

Fortunately, no one was injured among the 22 crew members who were on board during the time of the fire, the Coast Guard confirmed.

Emergency Efforts Underway

Three ships had already reached on the scene at the time of the latest update, and the Coast Guard also sent aircrews and a cutter ship to offer additional aid. Neither the US Coast Guard nor the owner of the ship, Hawthorn Navigation Limited, has made the cause of the fire or any additional details regarding the incident public yet.

An investigation has commenced, and authorities are keeping watch for any potential environmental damage caused by the fire. The Coast Guard is in high alert as it continues to ensure safety on maritime routes throughout the area.

Man Killed in Hudson River Boat Blast

In response to a another tragedy over the weekend, a man died from an explosion on a boat that was docked along the Hudson River in New York. According to the US Coast Guard via social media, “The man was performing maintenance work with flames or sparks when the explosion occurred around 10:30 AM.

A 59-year-old man was found unconscious in the river by emergency responders, who were sent after a 911 call, reports the New York Police. The man was declared dead at the scene. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation by authorities, as well as the identity of the man.
