211 Foot Ravan: The Record-Breaking Tallest Effigy In India, Where Is It?

As Dussehra 2024 approaches, the Sri Ram Lila Society in Dwarka, Delhi, has created history by erecting the tallest Ravan effigy in India, towering at an impressive height of 211 feet. Located in Sector 10 of Dwarka, this massive effigy is set to be the centerpiece of this year’s celebrations, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.

Months of Preparation and Talent Auditions

According to news agency ANI, the construction of this colossal structure took a total of four months. To bring the event to life, the society held auditions for over 400 artists from across the Delhi NCR region, selecting fresh talent to perform at the Dussehra event. The Chairman of the organizing committee, Rajesh Gehlot, shared that the effigy represents the growing evils in society, which will be symbolically destroyed on Dussehra, October 12, 2024.

Invitation Sent to PM Modi and Other Leaders

In an effort to make the event even more special, the committee has extended invitations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other BJP leaders. “We are hopeful for a positive response,” said Gehlot, adding that the invitations are aimed at celebrating Dussehra with national significance.

A Grand Ramleela Inspired by Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir

This year’s Ramleela will feature themes inspired by the historic Ram Mandir temple in Ayodhya, which was demolished years ago. The decorations are set to mirror South Indian temple designs, particularly the “Gopuram” style gates. The committee has made extra efforts to ensure that this year’s Ramleela presentation is visually stunning, with special attention given to decorations and performances.

Security Measures in Place for a Safe Celebration

In light of the large crowds expected for the festivities, the organizers have ramped up security measures. Over 50 Delhi Police personnel, 200 volunteers, and more than 100 civil officers will be deployed to ensure the safety of visitors at the venue.

The Significance of Dussehra

Dussehra, also known as Vijaya Dashami, marks the triumph of Lord Ram over Ravana, the ten-headed demon king of Lanka. As per Hindu mythology, each of Ravana’s heads represents a distinct vice—Pride, Hate, Lust, Fear, Attachment, Anger, Ego, Greed, Insensibility, and Envy. The festival, celebrated nationwide, is marked by the burning of effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhkaran, and son Meghnath, symbolizing the eradication of evil.

This year, Dussehra will be celebrated on October 12, with the grand event in Dwarka expected to attract thousands of visitors, offering them a powerful reminder of the importance of good triumphing over evil.
