Vir Das to Host International Emmy Awards, Becomes First Indian Among Ceremony’s Hosts

Indian stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das has been announced as the host of the 2024 International Emmys, marking a historic moment as he becomes the first Indian to take on this prestigious role. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences made the announcement on Wednesday.

Indian stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das has been announced as the host of the 2024 International Emmys, marking a historic moment as he becomes the first Indian to take on this prestigious role. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences made the announcement on Wednesday.

Sharing his excitement on Instagram, Vir Das expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm: “Thanks to your support, I am thrilled to be the Indian Emmy Host this year! It’s a crazy honor, and I can’t wait to host the @iemmys. Tremendously honored and excited!”

Das, who was nominated for an Emmy in 2021 for his special Vir Das: For India and won the award in 2023 for his Netflix special Landing, is currently on his international Mind Fool tour. His hosting of the International Emmys will be a significant milestone in his career.

In addition to his stand-up work, Das has made notable contributions to television and film. He has created, produced, and starred in several series, including ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier, Netflix’s Hasmukh, and Amazon’s Jestination Unknown. He has also appeared in Judd Apatow’s The Bubble and is working on a single-camera comedy with CBS Studios and Andy Samberg. As the lead singer of the comedy-rock band Alien Chutney, Das showcases his diverse talents.

Expressing his joy at hosting the International Emmys, Das said, “I am so happy to be hosting the International Emmys. It’s a massive and prestigious night celebrating creators from around the world, and I know first-hand how life-changing this recognition can be.”

The International Emmy Awards are set to take place on November 25 in New York City.

Vir Das began his career in stand-up comedy, performing both in India and internationally. His rise to fame includes notable Bollywood films like Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone, and Badmaash Company. His Netflix specials, including Vir Das: Abroad Understanding, Vir Das: For India, and Landing, have earned him global recognition and critical acclaim. His 2023 win of the International Emmy Award for Comedy solidified his status as a prominent figure in global entertainment.

In addition to his stand-up and acting work, Das has made significant contributions to TV and film, produced acclaimed series, and continued to entertain audiences with his band Alien Chutney.
