Vinod Khanna was at the pinnacle of his profession when he left everything to follow Osho Rajneesh and began living at Rajneesh’s ashram in Oregon. When the ashram closed down a few years later, Vinod returned and resumed his job, but his family remained, including his first wife Gitanjali and kids Akshaye and Rahul. Vinod reconciled with his children, but he remained single. During this time, he met Kavita by chance at a party and couldn’t stop thinking about her.
Vinod and Kavita came from quite different backgrounds. They met at a party at Khanna’s house where Kavita was only tagging along with a few pals, despite the fact that he was a movie star who was loved by millions and she was a barrister who was well educated. It wasn’t love at first sight because they didn’t even talk to each other, but Vinod sensed something special about them and phoned her the next day. “She kept ignoring my calls,” he recalled on Simi Garewal’s show, as she interjected and stated she wasn’t “ignoring” his calls for the sake of ignoring them.
