The Indian sporting fraternity remains on tenterhooks as the CAS has again deferred pronouncing its judgement on wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal; the decision now shall be declared on August 16, 2024, in opposition to the previously expected time.

Phogat has appealed against the decision to disqualify her from the Paris Olympics, which has invited great debate and concern among the sports fraternity. The delay of the verdict therefore means uncertainty continues to surround Phogat’s participation—probably future at the Olympics.

The CAS heard arguments from all parties, but it has so far not released its ruling, leaving athletes, fans, and officials with bated breath. Phogat has been a big name in Indian wrestling and ever since the disqualification was announced, has been at the receiving end of intense scrutiny and support.

The resolution is hoped to be fair and just with the new date drawing near. The wrestling fraternity and, in general, sports lovers are all waiting to see if the decision is going to be reversed or upheld, as that would mean much in Phogat’s career and generally across the landscape in the field of sports in India.
