The Punjab and Haryana High Court has reserved its verdict on the bail of veteran Akali leader and former minister Bikram Majithia. Before the High Court reserved its decision, an argument broke out between the lawyers of both sides, wherein Majithia’s lawyers claimed that he has been implicated in this case due to political rivalry.

A drug case has been registered against Majithia, who is currently lodged in Patiala Central Jail. A double bench of the High Court heard the matter. His MLA wife, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, was also present in the High Court during the hearing. The first two judges recused themselves from hearing Majithia’s bail plea. Majithia has been in jail since 24 February.

Bikram Majithia surrendered on 24 February this year. A few months back, he had approached the Supreme Court to dismiss the drug case against him. However, the top court asked him to move to the High Court. The Chief Justice of the High Court had earlier constituted a bench of Justice AG Masih and Justice Sandeep Moudgil. Of these, Justice Masih refused to hear.

After this, the case was sent to the bench of Justice Rao and Justice Anoop Chitkara.
