Varanasi is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh and among the 543 seats in India, represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won from the constituency for two consecutive terms – 2014 and 2019 and is also the BJP candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections 2024.

The constituency has been a BJP bastion since 1991. In this election, PM Modi faces Congress’s Uttar Pradesh President Ajai Rai and Athar Jamal Lari from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi secured a landslide victory with a margin of 479,505 votes, defeating Shalini Yadav of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Ajai Rai, who finished third. In 2014, he won against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by 371,784 votes.

Exit polls predict another victory for PM Modi in Varanasi, with the BJP-led NDA expected to win between 64 and 68 of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
