After the launch of the semi-high speed 160 kmph Vande Bharat Express, the Indian railway is now going to unveil a new train named Vande Metro, for small intercity travel.
By introducing Vande Metro, Indian railway strives to transform short-distance train travel for people. Take a look at features and expected routes.
- Similar to Vande Bharat Express, this metro will be automated, which doesn’t need locomotive to drive it.
- Vande Bharat will utilize Advanced technology of acceleration and deceleration, to travel faster speed of 130 kmph. Hence, exceeding the speed of Mainline EMUs.
- This upcoming train will also contain sealed gangways for enhancing easy movement between coaches and will ensure clean & dust-free environment.
- Another set of features will also include, lightweight aluminum luggage rack, integrated with Passenger Information Systems with LCD displays and upgraded lavatories.
- To make travel smoother and more convenient, Vande Train will come with features like automated entry & exit doors for passengers. Like Delhi metro, it will also have mobile charging sockets.
- In addition, diffused lighting route indicator, accompanied by wider panoramic sealed windows with roller blinds will also be there.
- To make seating comfortable for passengers, lightweight comfortable cushions seats will be placed in the metro. Every coach will provide space for atleast 100 passengers and will also establish standing room for around 200 passengers.

In Which Routes It Will Be Launched?
As per TOI report, the Vande metro will initially be launched on routes like Agra-Mathura, Delhi-Rewari, Lucknow-Kanpur, Tirupati-Chennai, and Bhubaneswar-Balasore.
According to routes, the coaches in this new train will be around either 12 or 16.

First announced in February 2023 by former railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav, the primary aim behind launching this rail, was to provide passengers with comfortable and faster travel options and to effectively eliminate old mainline EMU rails.
Currently, its prototype is being manufactured at RCF Kapurthala and ICF Chennai. Most likely in the upcoming months, its Contruction will be completed and later, it will be tested.
