Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw strongly criticized the Congress-led Telangana government after actor Allu Arjun’s arrest. He argued that the arrest reflected the government’s “lack of respect for the creative industry.” This followed the actor’s detention in connection with the tragic death of a woman during a stampede at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad.
Details of the Incident at Sandhya Theatre
The stampede occurred when a large crowd gathered to see Allu Arjun. Unfortunately, the situation escalated when the theatre failed to provide a separate exit for the actor and his entourage. As a result, Revathi tragically died in the chaos, and her son Sri Teja suffered severe asphyxiation. He remains hospitalized.
Vaishnaw Blames Poor Arrangements for the Tragedy
Vaishnaw placed the blame on the state and local administration for their poor management of the event. He suggested that the government was using Arjun’s arrest as a way to deflect responsibility. In his post on X, Vaishnaw said, “Congress has no respect for the creative industry and the arrest of Allu Arjun proves it yet again. The mishap at Sandhya Theatre was a clear case of poor arrangements by the state and local administration. Now, to deflect the blame, they are indulging in such publicity stunts.”
Vaishnaw Urges Government to Focus on Victims
Instead of focusing on the arrest of film personalities, Vaishnaw urged the Telangana government to help the victims of the tragedy. He added, “It is also sad to see this becoming a norm in the one year Congress has been in power there.”
Opposition Parties Speak Out in Support of Allu Arjun
Meanwhile, KT Rama Rao, working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), condemned the arrest, calling it a reflection of the “insecurity of the rulers.” He emphasized that treating Allu Arjun like a criminal was unjust, as he wasn’t directly responsible for the incident. Rao also criticized the Congress government’s “high-handed” actions.
CM Revanth Reddy Responds
In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated that the Telangana government had no involvement in Arjun’s arrest. He clarified that the law was simply following its course.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
Arjun was arrested at his residence and taken to the Chikkadpally police station. Following a medical examination at Gandhi Hospital, he was brought before a court. The court remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. However, the Telangana High Court later granted him interim bail. Due to delays in the release of his bail order, Arjun had to spend the night in jail but was ultimately released the following morning.
