A warehouse explosion in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent on Thursday morning (local time) killed at least one person and injured 162, according to CNN, citing officials.

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergencies announced in an update that the situation at the site of the warehouse explosion in Tashkent is “under control,” as emergency services strive to entirely extinguish a fire triggered by the explosion.

According to Uzbekistan’s Health Ministry, a youngster, aged 16 or 17, died at the scene of the incident. According to CNN, the ministry also stated that 24 of the injured were brought to hospitals for treatment.

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergencies in a statement said, “From the first minutes, the leadership of the Ministry of Emergency Situations has been working at the scene of the incident, and the forces and resources of specialized organizations have been involved.” It further said that the fire was contained at 5:02 am (local time) on Thursday.

According to CNN, quoting Russian news agency TASS, a fire broke out in one of the warehouses in Uzbekistan’s Sergeli region after the building was struck by lightning. The warehouse was owned by Inter Logistics LLC, according to the government.
