Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi on Sunday, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The hospital will provide comprehensive consultations and treatments for various eye conditions.

During his one-day visit to Varanasi, PM Modi is also set to lay the foundation for several development projects worth approximately Rs 6,100 crore. Kaushal Raj Sharma, the Divisional Commissioner of Varanasi, confirmed that the Prime Minister will initiate 23 projects in the city.

As part of his initiative to enhance sports infrastructure, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopment of the Varanasi Sports Complex, which is valued at over Rs 210 crore, under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme and the Smart City Mission. This project aims to establish a state-of-the-art facility that will include a National Centre of Excellence, players’ hostels, a sports science center, practice fields for various sports, indoor shooting ranges, and combat sports arenas.

Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for New Civil Enclaves at Agra Airport, valued at over Rs 570 crore, as well as projects for Darbhanga Airport, estimated at around Rs 910 crore, and Bagdogra Airport, costing approximately Rs 1,550 crore.

He will also inaugurate new terminal buildings at Rewa Airport, Maa Mahamaya Airport in Ambikapur, and Sarsawa Airport, collectively worth over Rs 220 crore. These upgrades are expected to increase the combined passenger handling capacity of the airports to more than 23 million annually, reflecting designs inspired by the region’s heritage structures.
