A Reddit user from the United States recently sought advice about relocating to Mumbai after receiving a job offer with an annual salary of ₹1 crore. The post, which gained considerable attention, detailed the user’s situation: he is a single Mexican American male with approximately $400,000 (₹3.3 crore) in savings from selling his home and a monthly pension of $4,000 (₹3.3 lakh). The user, known as “Senorahlan” on Reddit, completed his Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity from Western Governors University in January 2023 and is a disabled army veteran with 10 years of IT experience, including three years as a project lead.

In his post, Senorahlan inquired about what lifestyle he could expect in Mumbai with his salary package. He expressed curiosity about where he could live and what activities he might enjoy. “I was recently offered a job that would pay the equivalent of $130,000 (₹10,000,000) in central Mumbai,” he wrote. “I wanted to see what I could expect in terms of lifestyle there. I’d be coming as a single male (Mexican American) with 400k USD in savings and 4,000 USD per month from my pension.”

Responses to his post varied. Some Reddit users were enthusiastic and provided suggestions on how to enjoy Mumbai. One user noted, “With such a salary, your lifestyle would be really great. You should be able to easily rent a 2 BHK for yourself. There’s a lot to do in Mumbai, depending on what you’re looking for.”

Conversely, other users offered cautionary advice. “Don’t,” advised one user, vikram2077. “You might earn money, but your everyday life will be tough. Bad roads, overcrowded public transport, pollution, small houses, and corrupt government offices are just some of the problems.”

Another user, neeravparekh, suggested providing more specifics about the job location. “Central Mumbai is too large of an area to help with,” they commented. “However, if you can provide more details, people can offer better suggestions. For now, I’d recommend looking into Hiranandani Gardens township in Powai.”

Overall, the Reddit discussion provided a range of perspectives on what to expect when moving to Mumbai.
