The United States is set to celebrate its 248th Independence Day on Thursday, July 4. This annual event draws thousands to Washington, D.C., for the US Independence Day Parade, which marches down Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Street, beginning at 11:45 a.m. The grand parade, co-hosted by the National Park Service, showcases bands, drill teams, military units, massive balloons, and cavalry.

In addition to the parade, the Fourth of July festivities include spectacular fireworks displays across the nation. Cities host fireworks shows either on July 4 or around the holiday.

Washington, D.C.: The National Independence Day Parade culminates in an evening fireworks extravaganza over the National Mall.
