Former India U19 World Cup winning captain Unmukt Chand has continued his dream run at United States of America’s premier T20 tournament: Minor League Cricket. For the second season in a row, Chand concluded the tournament as the highest run scorer with 693 runs to his name. With a whopping average of 53.31, the opening batsman struck at 130+ in the 18 games he played.
Chand led Sillicon Valley Strikers side won the inaugural Minor League Tournament last year. This year they won 13 out of their 14 league games only to be knocked out in the semi-finals. His performance has been lauded across America in the tournament which took three months to conclude as the matches are only played on weekends. Consistency for two seasons with long gaps between matches demands regular practice and athletic fitness which Chand is known for. Even during his time with Indian cricket he regularly clocked scores of 20-22 in yo-yo tests at the NCA. Unmukt had a flourishing run at the Houston open as well in April. He has now three centuries to his name this year alone in the shortest format of the game.
The Delhi star is now eyeing a place in global t20 tournaments around the world and also preparing for the 2024 World Cup which the USA would be hosting. If he continues to bat the way he is, he is sure to be a big contender to lead USA against India at the highest level.
