Despite the tall claims, higher educational institutes in Haryana continue to witness declining status as most of the universities along with other educational institutions failed to meet expectations in the National Institutional Ranking Framework ( NIRF) issued by the Central Ministry of Education. In the overall institutes ranking category among the top 100, not even a single University or any other educational institute could find a place which clearly indicates a poor show. Similarly, only three universities of the state succeeded in securing positions in top 100 in university category across the country. It is worth mentioning that the ranking has been decided on several parameters including Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research & Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach & Inclusivity and Pear Perception.

Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak has been ranked on the 78th position which is the highest in the state but it is pertinent to mention that university could not meet the expectations as it was secured 76th position last year. In continuation to above, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Hisar has been ranked on 88th place which is second highest score after MDU Rohtak to be followed by the Ashoka University, Sonipat with 95th rank. Thus, the present scenario clearly portrays that most of the higher educational institutions have failed to remain up to the mark.

Besides, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (KUK), one of the oldest and most reputed higher education institutions in the state could not secure any position among 100 universities and KUK is continuously lagging behind as compared to other institutes. Central University of Haryana also failed to secure any positions among the above mentioned category. As many as 21 state and 1 central universities exist in the state.

Although, to some extent, it has been relieving as several institutes in particular fields succeeded in gaining positions among 100. National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra has been placed on 44th place in engineering category while Indian Institute of Management secured 28 rank in terms of institutes of management. Similarly, IC College of Hisar stands on 38th place among the college category. Likewise, among the medical institutions, MM college has been put on 35th rank.

What is important to mention is that poor research and teaching along with parameters of perception emerged as main factors for poor performance of the universities as well as other institutes.
