A awkward but light moment occurred during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s trip to the White House when a reporter asked him why he was wearing what he was wearing.

Journalist Brian Glenn questioned Zelenskyy, “Why don’t you wear a suit? Do you have a suit?” Zelenskyy responded, “I will put on a costume when this war is finished… Perhaps something better.

The comment caused Vice President JD Vance to erupt in laughter at the exchange.

Zelenskyy visited to mainly conclude an agreement allowing the US access to Ukraine’s mineral deposits and negotiating a possible peace agreement with Russia. The visit, however, also showcased underlying tensions, with former US President Donald Trump recently having attempted to moderate his approach towards Zelenskyy.

The exchange about Zelenskyy’s dress deviated from the high-stakes negotiations briefly, providing an otherwise unexpected dose of humor during severe diplomatic negotiations.
