Will Trump Attend the 2025 Kentucky Derby? Here’s the Scoop

President Donald Trump wished ‘best wishes’ to the contestants of the 151st Kentucky Derby on Saturday, complimenting the event as an ‘iconic American institution’. His message, issued several hours prior to the race, underlined the Derby as an embodiment of American culture and the country’s ‘unwavering competitive spirit’.

Trump pointed out that this year’s Derby is a reminder of the U.S. stepping ‘into a new Golden Age’. In regard to the historical context of the Derby, he pointed out that it began in 1875, only one year shy of the nation’s centennial. “Today, as we celebrate the esteemed springtime tradition of the Kentucky Derby, my administration commits to continuing the efforts of reforming our nation, reharnessing our heritage, and rekindling all of our greatness and glory,” he declared.

While the message was pitched in a patriotic note, it did not specifically state whether Trump would be appearing personally at the event. His previous visit to the Derby came in 2022 for the fundraiser organized by the Trump-endorsed PAC ‘MAGA, Again!’, a function where ticket prices were at $150,000 per couple. Trump appeared in 1999 as well with his then-girlfriend Melania Knauss.

The race was to start at 6:57 PM ET, with a 90% chance of rain forecast. Journalism, the 3-1 choice, was to leave from post No. 8, traditionally one of the most winning starting positions at Churchill Downs.
