What would be a festive lead-up to graduation became an unimaginable tragedy for the Bentley University community. Gaurav Jaisingh, a 22-year-old finance major, died in a “tragic accident” after falling off a hotel balcony in the Bahamas. The accident happened as he was having a good time at the annual senior class trip, a ritual for graduating students.
As reported by the Royal Bahamas Police, the accident occurred on Paradise Island when they received an emergency call from a hotel. Gaurav was discovered unconscious on a lower floor after the fall and sadly died from his injuries during transport to the hospital.
Promising Life Cut Short
Additionally, Bentley University confirmed the tragic news in a statement of condolence, “We are profoundly sad to confirm that one of our students, Gaurav Jaisingh, passed away last night in a tragic accident during the annual senior class trip in the Bahamas.” The statement further mentioned, “While local authorities are investigating, it appears Gaurav accidentally fell from a balcony.”
Moreover, the university also came forward and supported those struck by it, announcing, “We share our deepest condolences with Gaurav’s family, friends, and loved ones. We will share more information when available while respecting his family’s privacy.”
Respected and Involved Student
Gaurav’s peers and professors alike deeply respected him. He was a proud member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, and was an active participant in several other student organizations on campus. His LinkedIn profile emphasizes his ambition, leadership, and dedication to his major.
“He was gearing up for graduation this weekend, so I hope we take some time to honor him this weekend at graduation,” fellow senior Sydney Bazin told WHDH. Another student, Isabella Abeiga, voiced the collective shock of the community, stating, “It was the last thing I was expecting, especially just a few days away from graduation.”
Community in Mourning
While Bentley prepares for what was meant to be a celebratory commencement, a sense of gloom unmistakably hangs in the air. Gaurav’s memory now hangs over the festivities, reminding everyone of the uncertainty of life. The community remains determined to remember him and honor the legacy he has left behind.
