White House Appoints New DOGE Leaders Post-Musk Exit

As Elon Musk steps down from his position at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the White House has announced that President Donald Trump and the members of his Cabinet will take over to ensure its continuation.

The CEO of Tesla is closing out this month as a ‘Special Government Employee’ to focus his efforts back on his business concerns. This comes in the wake of his company’s stock prices experiencing a fall during the repeated protests against him and his company throughout the United States.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the statement on Thursday that the leadership of DOGE will henceforth be in the hands of the President and his administration. “The leaders of DOGE are each and every one of the members of the President’s cabinet — and the president himself — who is enthusiastically dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud and abuse from our government,” she stated.

Musk had previously announced that his tenure as the government employee was drawing to an end. He wrote on X, ‘As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.’

Trump Commends Elon Musk

Trump turned to Truth Social to praise Musk, referring to him as ‘terrific’ and saying that his legacy would still be felt even once he officially left. “I am holding a Press Conference tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. EST, with Elon Musk, at the Oval Office. This is going to be his last day, but not technically, since he is going to, always, remain with us, assisting all the way. Elon is great! Looking forward to tomorrow at the White House,” Trump tweeted.

In the 2024 U.S. presidential elections campaign, Musk had promised to cut $2 trillion from government expenditure. Following Trump’s return to the White House and DOGE’s official introduction in January, the goal was adjusted to $1 trillion. This came after news that Musk had donated over $250 million towards Trump’s campaign.

Although he has come under fire for his influence over the administration, DOGE asserts it has already saved $160 billion through asset liquidation and spending cuts.
