US Secretary of State Antony Blinken‘s farewell address on Tuesday was disrupted by protesters. As Blinken outlined plans for Gaza’s post-war management, a protester accused the Biden administration of supporting genocide. The protester claimed that Israel’s actions against Palestinians amounted to mass murder.
Blinken Remains Calm Amid Accusations
Despite the heated protest, Blinken stayed calm. He politely asked the protester to allow him to speak and assured her that he respected her views. He continued his speech after the protester was escorted out.
US Plans for Gaza’s Post-War Future
In his address, Blinken emphasized the US’s ongoing efforts to create a post-conflict plan for Gaza. He stated that the plan would involve Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza, prevent Hamas from returning, and focus on governance, security, and reconstruction in the region. Blinken added that the US had pushed Israel to protect civilians and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Uncertainty Over Future Implementation
Blinken confirmed that if a ceasefire is reached, the Biden administration would hand over the roadmap to President-elect Donald Trump’s team. However, it remains unclear whether Trump’s administration would fully implement the proposed plan.
