The US military has established a second war zone along the Mexican border, including the addition of a Texas area where migrants or intruders can be held temporarily, Reuters reported.
This new step in Trump’s immigration crackdown follows the administration’s declaration of a 6-foot-wide corridor along a New Mexico base as a “National Defense Area.” The new military area has also been declared as the “Texas National Defense Area.”
Increased Military Presence at the Southern Border
The Trump administration has also deployed more troops at the southern border to support the President’s aggressive plans to expel millions of undocumented migrants from the United States.
Approximately 11,900 soldiers are now stationed on the US Southwest border, where migrants caught attempting to cross illegally in March dropped to an all-time low, federal statistics show.
Trump’s US Crackdown
The Trump administration has presided over an astronomical increase in deportations, reaching an all-time high in the first quarter of 2025.
According to data from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), more than 271,000 individuals have been removed from the country, the highest number in nearly a decade.
More than 80 per cent of the deportations took place at the US-Mexico border, while deportations from the interior regions of the country also rose significantly.
Focus on Latin American Nations
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, or ICE, targeted unauthorized aliens from all over the world, with special focus on Latin American nations such as Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.
ICE also stated that there was a 334 per cent increase in the number of people deported without criminal convictions.
There has also been a sudden rise in the deportation of Asian individuals, with approximately 1,500 Indian nationals being deported during the first half of 2025.
