Former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber was found dead inside her home Saturday morning. Her 43-year-old death is under investigation by the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Alexandria police confirmed it was Aber following the report of an unresponsive woman at around 9:18 a.m. on Beverley Drive. The police issued their statement stating they are conducting an investigation.

The U.S. Attorney for the EDVA, Erik S. Siebert, paid his condolences, terming Aber an “unmatched” mentor and leader. He referred to her as being “irreplaceable” and commended her professionalism, grace, and level of legal expertise. Siebert further stated, “We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in this world.”

Jessica Aber started in 2009 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for EDVA, handling cases regarding financial fraud, public corruption, violent crime, and child exploitation. In 2015-2016, she was counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division at the DOJ. She then became the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division at EDVA before President Biden nominated her as U.S. District Attorney in 2021. Aber stepped down as a prosecutor during January after the inauguration of Trump.
