UAE, US to Boost Energy Ties and AI Collaboration After Key Diplomatic Visit

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright has successfully wrapped up his first international trip since assuming office — and his destination, the United Arab Emirates, marks a renewed phase of UAE-US strategic cooperation.

During the two-day visit, Secretary Wright engaged with top UAE leaders, emphasizing the critical role of energy security, technology integration, and AI-driven innovation in shaping the global future.

Energy and Technology Take Center Stage

At a time of rising global energy demand and market volatility, Wright’s visit underscored a shared commitment between the two nations to ensure cost-competitive, stable energy markets. His itinerary included visits to major energy and infrastructure sites such as:

  • Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, now powering 25% of the UAE’s electricity
  • Shah Gas Field, where U.S.-based Occidental is a strategic partner
  • Al Dhafra Solar PV Project, showcasing sustainable power at scale

High-Level Meetings: Deepening Diplomatic and Investment Ties

Wright met with several key UAE figures including:

  • Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of ADNOC and Chairman of Masdar
  • Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure
  • Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment
  • Mariam Almheiri from the Presidential Court
  • Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the U.S.

Dr. Al Jaber said, “This visit has created a powerful platform to deepen our ties and explore opportunities at the energy-AI nexus.” He praised ADNOC’s leadership in using AI and advanced technology to enhance efficiency and competitiveness.

Shared Vision for the Future

Secretary Wright described ADNOC as a “high-technology, high-performing” energy business and called his visit “tremendous.” He commended the UAE’s investments in AI and its commitment to future-proofing energy infrastructure.

UAE officials echoed the sentiment. Suhail Al Mazrouei noted the visit had advanced discussions not just in energy, but also in infrastructure, trade, and manufacturing, paving the way for stronger bilateral relations.

Strategic Facilities Signal Long-Term Commitment

Wright’s tour included a helicopter overflight of the Al Dhafra Solar Plant, a symbol of the UAE’s renewable energy ambitions. His visit to the Shah Gas Field highlighted active U.S. involvement in the region’s natural gas sector.

Notably, the Barakah Nuclear Plant — a product of the UAE-U.S. 123 Agreement for Civil Nuclear Cooperation — stands as a cornerstone of peaceful nuclear collaboration.

Energy-AI Nexus: The Future of Global Partnerships

The visit concluded with promising discussions on how AI can reshape the energy sector, with ADNOC’s investment arm XRG set to play a vital role in expanding U.S. collaboration to meet AI-powered energy demands.

This visit not only reinforced existing ties but also opened new doors for innovation-led growth, proving that energy diplomacy remains a powerful force for global stability and prosperity.
