Over 50 nations have indicated interest in initiating trade talks with the United States, senior economic adviser to President Donald Trump Kevin Hassett said. The statement comes as global concern over new US tariffs has heightened, causing international markets to be unsettled and triggering widespread debate.
While participating in an interview on ABC News This Week, Hassett, the US National Economic Council head, touched on increasing gossip that the tariffs are part of a larger tactic to shake global financial markets and force the Federal Reserve to drop interest rates. He strongly disagreed with these, insisting that trade policies by the administration are all about creating freer and fairer international trade, not games of monetary policy manipulation.
The enthusiasm from more than 50 countries, Hassett indicated, points to a readiness among international partners to work constructively despite tensions. The US continues to justify its tariff policy as a necessary action to rectify historical trade imbalances and shield American industries.
