Trump’s Health Report: BMI still ‘Overweight’, No Alcohol, No Tobacco, Just Golf

Following Donald Trump’s first physical check-up since his return to the White House, his physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, declared him in “excellent” health. The examination was conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and lasted close to five hours. The 78-year-old president demonstrates robust mental acuity, regular heart function, and improved cholesterol levels, as per Barbabella’s complete report.

Still, Trump’s body mass index (BMI) puts him as “overweight.” That fact generated renewed interest in Trump’s health report, way of life, and the confidentiality that usually covers presidential medical histories. As the oldest man in US history to hold the Presidency, Trump’s latest examination assures he is medically capable of serving. Yet his weight continues to be an issue of public debate.

What the Latest Examination Found ?

Donald Trump’s physical encompassed his cardiovascular, cognitive, neurological, pulmonary, dermatological, and gastrointestinal systems. Lab tests and specialist consults were also part of it. He now weighs 224 pounds and is 6 feet 3 inches tall, resulting in a BMI of 28.0. That still has him in the overweight category—but it’s better than he was in 2020, when his BMI was 30.5, which marked him as obese.

Barbabella praised Trump’s condition. He asserted that the President “demonstrates remarkable cognitive and physical well-being and is completely able to perform the responsibilities of the Commander-in-Chief.” Trump’s resting heart rate was 62 beats per minute. His blood pressure read 128/74—considerably higher than average but nonetheless under control.

Trump also received a flawless 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). He likewise screened successfully for depression and anxiety without trouble.

From Cataracts to Colonoscopies: What Else the Report Revealed ?

Physicians reported slight sun damage on his skin and a few benign lesions. No evidence of cancer or abnormal growths was found. Trump had previously had cataract surgery on both eyes, although the report did not give dates. A July 2024 colonoscopy detected a benign polyp and mild diverticulosis—an age-related thinning of the intestinal walls.

Trump’s health report also referred to a July 2024 assassination attempt leaving Trump with a scar on his right ear. Physicians observed no complications from the wound.

Trump’s Cholesterol and Medications:

The report provided information on Trump’s current medication. He is taking:

  • Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe for cholesterol management
  • Aspirin to lower risk of stroke and heart attack
  • Mometasone cream for a skin condition

– Trump’s cholesterol has incrementally gone down over the years:

  • 2018: 223 mg/dL
  • 2019: 196 mg/dL
  • 2020: 167 mg/dL
  • 2025: 140 mg/dL

That final number places him well within the healthy range (below 200 mg/dL). His HDL, or “good” cholesterol, is 77 mg/dL. His LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, has fallen to 51 mg/dL. Both of those numbers are in the ideal range.

Trump’s Blood Work and Vital Signs:

Trump’s blood glucose is 89.7 mg/dL, and his Hemoglobin A1c is 5.2%. Both of these are normal. Kidney and liver function also returned healthy:

Creatinine: 0.89 mg/dL

ALT: 41 U/L

AST: 28 U/L

Vitamin B12: 486 pg/mL

TSH (thyroid): 1.42 IU/mL

His complete blood count (CBC) was normal.

No Alcohol, No Tobacco, Just Golf

Report confirmed that Trump has never smoked or drunk alcohol. This is a choice based on his family history. Alternatively, his doctors attribute him with an “active lifestyle,” with regular golfing. Trump is famous for playing—and triumphing—in tournaments at his Florida clubs. These habits lend credibility to assertions about his overall health.

Asked what motivates him, Trump replied, “I enjoy what I’m doing and I like the results. It probably keeps me happy.”

Transparency Controversy Returns

Even after Barbabella’s positive report, doubts about Trump’s previous health revelations persist. He has been accused of doctoring medical letters. In 2018, his former doctor Dr. Harold Bornstein told that Trump had dictated his 2015 letter, which stated his health as “extraordinary.”

This has only intensified public distrust, particularly because Trump often doubts President Joe Biden’s health but remains secretive about his own.

Who is Dr. Sean Barbabella?

Dr. Barbabella comes with more than medical knowledge to the job. He’s a decorated Navy captain and recipient of a Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit—two of the country’s highest military awards. He practices emergency and tactical medicine and spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan on tours.

Trump’s selection of Barbabella makes him the third straight osteopathic physician to serve as White House physician. Trump and Biden both preferred similar selections in their previous terms.

Trump’s Fit for Now, But Age Still Hangs Over Him

Donald Trump looks healthy enough to take on the presidency right now. But at 78, he remains in the high-risk category. He’ll be 79 in June, the oldest individual ever elected president. Biden held that distinction until he left office at 82 in January.

Trump’s health appears strong—so far. But as the 2028 election approaches, voters and physicians alike will be watching to see how age may affect his long-term ability to lead.
