Angered by a new tell-all book riddled with anonymous sources, US President Donald Trump has vowed to sue authors, publishers, and media outlets that employ unidentified quotes.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump said, “As a President who is being given credit for having the Best Opening Month of any President in history, quite naturally, here come the Fake books and stories with the so-called “anonymous,” or “off the record,” quotes.”
Trump Considers Suing Media and Publishers
Trump indicated that he may sue those who use anonymous sources, claiming that many of them do not exist. “At some point I am going to sue some of these dishonest authors and book publishers, or even media in general, to find out whether or not these “anonymous sources” even exist, which they largely do not. They are made up, defamatory fiction, and a significant price should be paid for this blatant dishonesty,” he told.
He intimated that the move would be beneficial to the nation and could have the law of new false reporting curbs enacted.
Michael Wolff’s Scathing New Book Sparks Backlash
Trump’s latest tirade follows Michael Wolff’s recently published exposé, which has, reportedly, angered him and his staff.
The book asserts that following a survival of an assassination attempt last summer while campaigning, Trump seemed to be “on the verge of cracking,” having trouble finishing sentences and erupting into wild tantrums. It also cites a Mar-a-Lago source alleging that his wife, Melania Trump, “hates him.”
Wolff is best recognized for his earlier best-selling novel, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House (2018), which gave a disorganized picture of Trump’s first term as president.
Trump Administration Battles Media Over Press Coverage
The Trump government has been embroiled in constant fights with the media while advancing its conservative agenda. Billionaire and close Trump adviser Elon Musk has had a strong influence on policies during the second term of the administration.
In a contentious decision, the White House declared on Tuesday that it will personally choose which news organizations receive intimate access to Trump in areas such as the Oval Office, defying decades of precedent. It was an association of journalists who previously determined press pool access.
As Trump’s legal threats mount and his conflict with the press ratchets up, the clash between the former president and the press is about to escalate to new levels.
