Trump Eyes Saudi Arabia for First Foreign Trip Amid Abraham Accords Talks

Ex-President of the United States, Donald Trump, is to visit Saudi Arabia in May, his first foreign trip since his second term began, Axios reported two officials as saying.

Trump’s trip coincides with ongoing talks of whether to include Saudi Arabia in the Abraham Accords—sactics created in 2020 to make Israel peaceful with a number of Arab and Muslim-majority countries. The report indicates that Saudi-Israel normalization is “on the back burner” because Riyadh insists on Palestinian statehood, something Israel will not agree to.

Saudi Arabia has been at the center of U.S. attempts to broker peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, hosting talks between the U.S. and each country individually.

Earlier this month, Trump suggested that Saudi Arabia might be his first foreign destination in this presidency, seeking to secure a $1 trillion investment agreement, including the procurement of military equipment.

On March 6, he repeated his possible visit in the next month and a half, referencing his 2017 visit to Riyadh, where he made Saudi investments of $350 billion.
