The Trump transition team is weighing several potential candidates to lead the US Department of Transportation, including a former Uber executive and several current and former Republican congressmen, according to sources familiar with the matter. Emil Michael, a tech entrepreneur and Trump donor who has social ties with Elon Musk, has emerged as a prominent contender. Michael is known for his connections to Musk, having invested in Musk’s SpaceX venture.
Additionally, Republican figures such as Sam Graves, a Missouri Congressman and chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, are being considered. Other possible candidates include outgoing Louisiana Representative Garret Graves and former Wisconsin Representative Sean Duffy, now a Fox News host. Duffy did not respond to comment, while Sam Graves expressed openness to the position, saying he would be honored to serve if asked. Garret Graves, although not commenting on the potential DOT role, has been advising Trump’s campaign on transportation and infrastructure matters.
Sources revealed that some within the Trump camp, especially those with ties to the tech world, have backed Michael for the position. However, the final decision remains uncertain, with other potential contenders still in the mix. Elon Musk, according to one source, is a supporter of Michael, further fueling speculation around his nomination.
