US President Donald Trump on Sunday questioned the possibility of Ukraine entering a ceasefire deal with Russia, indicating that Moscow might be keen on direct talks. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “I’m starting to doubt that Ukraine will make a deal with Putin,” and added that Russian President Vladimir Putin seems reluctant to seek a ceasefire deal but willing to negotiate.
Trump called on Ukrainian authorities to sit with their Russian counterparts in Turkey on Thursday, claiming the negotiations might offer a chance to determine whether an end to the current conflict is possible. He added that the meeting would also include European leaders and the United States, who could collectively analyze the possibilities of peace.
The remark is made as international pressure for an end to the conflict is heightened, with diplomatic channels tense and combat stress between Russian and Ukrainian forces still being felt.
