A heartbreaking Easter morning unfolded in New York City as a deadly fire ripped through a home in Queens, killing three men and injuring four others.
Where It Happened
Firefighters rushed to the scene at 8725 Chevy Chase Street in Jamaica Estates after a 911 call reported a raging fire. The incident, which escalated to a three-alarm fire, broke out early in the morning.
What We Know About the Victims
According to police, three men aged 45, 52, and 67 were pronounced dead at the scene. Four others were injured and transported to nearby hospitals. Three of the injured were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, while one was reported to be in stable condition at Queens Hospital Center.
Authorities have yet to release the names of the victims.
FDNY’s Response
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said:
“This was a tragic Easter morning for our City. Three people died in a 2-alarm fire in Queens. Another person is fighting for their life. Our Firefighters responded quickly and worked tirelessly to put out the flames.”
He added,
“Dealing with loss of life is incredibly hard for our members. Our hearts go out to all of the victims, especially during this Holy Week.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by city fire marshals.
Another Blaze Hits NYC: St. Edmund Church Fire in Rockaways
Later in the day, a second fire broke out around 2 p.m. at St. Edmund Church near Rockaway Point Boulevard in Breezy Point.
Over 100 firefighters and emergency medical teams responded to the three-alarm fire, which destroyed the church’s roof. The fire was brought under control by 3:30 p.m. Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
The cause of this church fire is also under investigation by the FDNY.
