Tornado sirens sounded on Sunday night in Durant as bad weather moved through Bryan County, Oklahoma. Durant, Calera, and Caddo received a tornado warning and it was to last until 12:00 AM CDT. Ping pong ball-sized hail had been seen in these areas.
The National Weather Service activated an alert at 11:49 PM CDT, in which it reported, “A severe thunderstorm that was able to produce a tornado was near Caddo and moving at 45 mph in the northeast direction. The storm is also growing again near Durant. Ping pong ball size hail and a tornado were reported.” The zones covered by this were Durant, Caddo, Bokchito, Bennington, and Armstrong.

As the storm grew stronger, some Durant residents posted updates on Facebook, mentioning the startling reports of tornado sirens. One wrote, “Tornado sirens going off in Durant, Oklahoma where I live.” Another resident posted, “Tornado Sirens in Durant. We have guests relocated to our Safe Room on First Floor Area.” A third commenter expressed concern, writing, “Yall pray for Oklahoma getting a bad storm!!” Tornado sirens blaring from Kingston across to Durant! Not just the south side of Oklahoma but Oklahoma City is getting hit by the same storm.
In addition to reports by local residents, there were also claims by some storm chasers to have witnessed visible rotation close to Durant, making the warnings more serious.
