Senior Russian lawmaker Leonid Slutsky said on Thursday that preparations for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump are “on the home stretch,” as described by state news agency RIA.
The head of the State Duma’s committee on international affairs suggested the meeting could happen in February or March, but said he could neither confirm the date nor not confirm it.
“The preparations demand a lot of work, which without secrets is already on an advanced level,” Slutsky said.
Both leaders have declared their interest in holding talks with each other, and the discussions may include a range of subjects, such as nuclear arms control, global energy prices, and Trump’s goal of ending the Ukraine war rapidly. The Middle East situation will also be covered.
At such a meeting, Slutsky avoided hinting at any precise time frame, but underlined that it would take place very soon, both parties are working to ensure the discussion is well prepared and all-embracing.
