A Nevada man was arrested near Donald Trump’s rally in Southern California with a loaded handgun, shotgun, and ammunition. The arrest took place at a security checkpoint before the event, ensuring the safety of attendees and the former president.
The suspect, a 49-year-old Las Vegas resident, was driving an SUV that was stopped by Riverside County deputies at the rally in Coachella. Authorities found a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine inside his vehicle. He was arrested on charges of possessing the weapon and magazine.
The man was released on $5,000 bail but is set to appear in court on January 2, 2025. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department assured the public that the incident didn’t affect the safety of Trump or the rally attendees.
Tight security was in place for the rally, with VIPs and media personnel directed through various checkpoints, where vehicles were searched by K-9 officers. General ticket holders were shuttled to the event site after thorough screening.
As of now, Trump’s campaign has not commented on the arrest. Sheriff Chad Bianco is expected to hold a news conference to provide further details on the situation.
