Netherlands PM Dick Schoof Condemns ‘Terribly Antisemitic’ Attack On Israeli Fans In Amsterdam
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof expressed outrage over an antisemitic attack on Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam. Speaking at the European Union leaders’ meeting in Budapest, Schoof said, “It’s a terrible anti-Semitic attack. We will not tolerate it.” He pledged that those responsible would face prosecution.
The incident unfolded following a match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax in the UEFA Europa League. Pro-Palestinian groups allegedly targeted dozens of Israeli fans, resulting in violent clashes. Eyewitnesses reported aggressive chases and anti-Israel slogans in the streets.
Dutch police arrested 62 individuals in connection with the violence, which left at least five people hospitalized. Authorities revealed that the unrest began a day before the match, with confrontations on both sides, including property damage and flag burnings.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deployed medical and rescue teams to Amsterdam and held talks with Schoof, thanking him for his strong stance against antisemitism.
